In Zulu culture, a clay pot is not an ordinary vessel, but an art form passed on from one generation to another. Zulu pottery was traditionally used in ceremonies, with some being used to drink local beer from. According to some historians, it dates back to the second century when hunter gatherers first made them by coiling the clay and firing them only once, giving them their red colour. Modern day Zulu pottery has become decorative, both inside and outside the home. It comes in black, red and brown, and decorated with curvilinear and geometric patterns. Shop our collection here.
