R699.00Beaded ostrich egg, measures 14 cm diameter, 15 cm height. Handcrafted in South Africa
Beading goes back to ancient times, with natural materials such as seeds, precious stones and shells among the most used materials. Later on, glass beads and other processed beads were developed. South Africa’s rich tradition and culture is displayed in beautiful and colourful bead work, an intricate craft and art passed down from generation to generation. Ours is a selection of Zulu bead work, Ndebele bead work, and loom bead work. A bead loom is a device used to weave beads in a variety of patterns into a cloth like beaded fabric. Originally made from tree branches tied together in corners to form a rectangular shape, bead looms are now readily available in wood, wire and plastic. Shop our bead work creations here.
